Civil Engineering is the oldest and broadest of the traditional engineering professions. Civil engineers build the world’s infrastructure. In doing so, they quietly shape the history of nations around the world. Most people cannot imagine life without the many contributions of civil engineers to the public’s health, safety and standard of living. It is devoted to the improvement of the human Environment for the purposes of making our activities productive, safe, and enjoyable, while providing aesthetically pleasing surroundings. The civil engineer plans, designs, constructs and maintains physical works and facilities that are deemed essential to modern life. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Only by exploring civil engineering’s influence in shaping the world we know today, can we creatively envision the progress of our tomorrows
Course duration and assessment
A semester is of 16 weeks duration, there are two semesters in a year and duration of the program is four years. Diploma program consisting of 8 semester (1 semester= 6 months). The Bangladesh Technical Education Board is a state regulatory board responsible for monitoring and developing technical and vocational education. All the final exam and practical are conducted under the supervision of BTEB.
Career of Diploma in Civil Engineer
Just over half (64%) of civil engineering graduates are working as engineering professionals. Other popular jobs include architects, chartered architectural technologists, planning officers, surveyors and construction professionals, science, engineering and production technicians, production managers and directors, CAD, drawing and architectural technicians and conservation and environment professionals. After the completion of Diploma program, one can easily join Public or Private Job. There are job opportunities for Sub Assistant Engineer in the largest government organizations of the country such as: Roads and Highway Department (RHD), Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), LGED AND RAJUK, Bangladesh Railway etc. They have also job opportunities for Sub Assistant Engineer in other large government controlled organizations of the country such as: Water Development Board (WDB), Power Development Board (PDB), DESCO, DPDC, PGCB, WASA, City Corporation etc. Telecommunication Section, Ministry of Defense, BIWTA, House Building Finance Corporation, Bangladesh Steel Engineering Corporation. There are workplaces as Sub Assistant Engineers in the municipalities of the country. On the other hand in private job sector they have opportunities as a Sub-Assistant Engineer, Deputy Project Engineer, Project Engineer, Project In-Charge in different Real Estate and Developer Company. There are numerous job opportunities as junior instructors in government and private polytechnics. He can create employment for himself and others by creating his own resources.
Eligibility for Admission
The minimum educational requirement for admission application to Diploma programs is Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in science, commerce, humanities, vocational or other fields. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or Vocational students are also qualified.

To be eligible to apply, the person must meet the following requirements:

  •  Minimum GPA of 2.00 and minimum SSC equivalent in any discipline.
  • Science HSC students can enroll directly in the third semester.
  • Vocational HSC students can enroll directly in the fourth semester.
